A new face for science centre

The Globe and Mail

Toronto architect Jack Diamond revealed designs yesterday for a $40-million facelift of the Ontario Science Centre that will include a "scientific Times Square" with walls scrolling electronic text messages about hot topics. The changes are the most significant since the science centre, launched as a centennial project, opened in 1969, and are an attempt to invigorate visitors' experiences with science and technology. "Before the science centre, museums were places you went to look at things," said Mr. Diamond of the firm Diamond and Schmitt Architects Inc., which has also designed Toronto's new opera house.
