Despite Vancouver's current dismal spate of rainy weather, hundreds of homes and businesses around B.C.'s Lower Mainland are currently using solar energy for part of their hot water needs. Believe it or not, much of the hot water in the domestic terminal of the Vancouver International Airport comes from 100 solar panels. Architect Bruce Haden decided to incorporate solar energy into the "environmentally sensitive" Koo's Corner townhouse development in Vancouver. He installed two solar panels on the roof of his own townhouse, which are hooked up to his hot water tank. When it's sunny, his hot water is heated by the solar panels; when it's not, it comes from a regular gas heating system.
