Canadian architects gathering in Vancouver BC certain to draw international attention

The RAIC 2006 Festival being held jointly with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia conference June 14-17, 2006 in Vancouver offers a fabulous opportunity to learn the latest about what is happening the profession. The theme this year is Habitat Reloaded - The Power of Architecture. Some of the hightlights include:

Peter Davey, former editor of the Architectural Review, keynote at the Opening Reception-Induction/ Retirement Ceremony Wednesday June 14.
Shigeru Ban, an accomplished international, architect most famous for his innovative work with paper, particularly recycled cardboard paper tubes used to quickly and efficiently house disaster victims will speak at the RAIC College of Fellows Convocation and Investiture Thursday, June 15.
Bruce Kuwabara, FRAIC 2006 RAIC Gold Medal recipient will speak Saturday June 17.
Former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson will receive an Honourary RAIC Fellowship and address delegates Saturday June 17 afternoon.

The proceedings take place around the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of BC, 2006 World Planners Congress and gatherings for the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects and Canadian Society of Landscape Architects as well as the World Urban Forum (WUF), an international conference sponsored by UN-HABITAT. In celebration, plans are underway for a "Super-Saturday" June 17, which will bring together attendees from all these national conferences.

The RAIC Festival is an annual event that takes place in a different Canadian city each year offering delegates a chance to exchange ideas and attend credited professional development courses, and listen to some of the professions' most forward thinkers. The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada is a voluntary national association established in 1907 as the voice for architecture and its practice in Canada. Representing more than 3,300 architects, the RAIC provides the national framework for the development and recognition of architectural excellence.
