The eight modern units of Gallery Loft Towns, at the northeast corner of Beverley and Cecil Sts., incorporate a wide range of energy-efficient and conservation features. The project is also close to the College, Dundas and Spadina streetcar lines, the University subway line and is along the St. George/Beverley bicycle lane. With Baldwin Village and Kensington Market within walking distance, there will be no need to rely on a car for shopping. The site, where a club had operated since the 1930s, had been derelict for at least 10 years with a boarded-up building on the property, says Alex Speigel, a partner in Ideas Development Inc. The project was designed by Joe Lobko of DTAH Architects Inc., who is involved in several innovative projects such as Evergreen at the Brick Works, an eco-community centre created on the site of an old brick factory off Bayview Ave., and the Wychwood street car barns in the St. Clair and Bathurst area, which are being transformed into the Green Arts Barn community centre.
